{"id":5974,"date":"2019-11-21T12:38:04","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T11:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ripess.eu\/?p=5974"},"modified":"2021-03-22T15:37:52","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T14:37:52","slug":"a-ripess-pilot-se-learning-tour-cross-training-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.eu.ripess.rio20.net\/en\/a-ripess-pilot-se-learning-tour-cross-training-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"A RIPESS pilot SE Learning Tour and Cross-training in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><em>An article by Ripess International, November 8, 2019<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>This week, from November 8<sup>th<\/sup> to 11th, the RIPESS Education working group\u00a0will pilot the Solidarity Economy Learning Tour &amp; Cross-training hosted by Cooperation Jackson (US) with the participation of both local and international trainers from the US, Latin America and the Caribbean; Canada; Europe and Eastern Asia.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>The aim is to allow<\/strong> <strong>an exchange of knowledge of\u00a0Solidarity Economy (SE) trainers and work on the development of an SE curriculum. <\/strong>Both the format of the learning tour, based on visiting local SE practices, and the curriculum\u00a0that is being developed\u00a0<strong>will be\u00a0available to other SE networks\/initiatives to be used and adapted to their local contexts.<\/strong> The understanding of SE is about a way to change the current economic and social capitalist paradigm towards a more just and sustainable world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>During these\u00a0four\u00a0days, the participants will <strong>combine classroom learning <\/strong>to provide a grounding in the theory, practice and organizing strategies to build the solidarity economy <strong>with site visits <\/strong>to see and engage with real world solidarity economy practices.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Amongst the objectives, this project wants to <strong>pilot and co-develop a SE Curriculum<\/strong>, including materials, methodologies, and guidelines, and facilitated by SE educators from around the world, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/cooperationjackson.org\/intro\">Cooperation Jackson<\/a> folks. And also, to connect and get to know each other and engage in a process of personal transformation: \u201cto know ourselves in relationship to others \u2013 an understanding of \u2018us\u2019 and mutuality\u201d.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>By being <strong>a training of trainers, this gathering of trainers also aims to generate a dialogue, sharing and networking between trainers who are connected to the grassroots SE movements from all over the world. <\/strong>Taking a popular education approach, the participants will begin with the knowledge of the participants\u00a0and <strong>understand that everyone is a teacher and learner.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This approach, which well aligned with SE in terms of its principles, foundations, and methods, is a process of analysis-looking for patterns, accessing new knowledge as needed, developing a strategy of action, implementing that action, then returning to a reflection of the experience, analysis, gathering new knowledge to transform the local and global economy to construct a new society based on justice, equality and love, and so forth. The goal of <strong>popular education<\/strong> is <strong>to engage in a continual process of reflection and action <\/strong>in order to achieve the transformation of reality through an economic, social and political liberation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cooperation\u00a0Jackson, Mississippi (US)<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The\u00a0gathering of trainers\u00a0is hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/cooperationjackson.org\/intro\">Cooperation Jackson<\/a> a project that is igniting a lot of excitement in the U.S. as well as internationally as it is part of a broader vision to transform the local and regional economy and society through a political\/electoral strategy, grassroots organizing through people\u2019s assemblies, and <strong>building the SE through a cooperative network consisting of four interdependent institutions<\/strong>: a federation of local worker cooperatives, a cooperative incubator, a cooperative education and training center, and a cooperative bank or financial institution.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>For these reasons, RIPESS\u2019 education working group has decided to collaborate with\u00a0Cooperation Jackson to organize this\u00a0gathering of trainers\u00a0and to start developing a Solidarity Economy Curriculum that can be used in the future by people from all around the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SE Education material available on Socioeco<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The RIPESS Education working group has compiled a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socioeco.org\/bdf_bibliographies_en.html\">list of SE training material<\/a> to be available to any person interested or working on SE and education. All the material can be found in Socioeco, the RIPESS\u2019 resource center and we invite all trainers and SE networks to send new materials socioeco.org to be included in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socioeco.org\/bdf_dossier-37_en.html\">section on SE training tool material<\/a>\u00a0or in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socioeco.org\/pedago_en.html\">special map on pedagogical tools<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>RIPESS will publish some <strong>updates during the\u00a0gathering of trainers on our social media <\/strong>accounts Twitter and Facebook.
