{"id":4832,"date":"2019-02-18T12:11:08","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T11:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ripess.eu\/?p=4832"},"modified":"2021-03-29T16:00:15","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T15:00:15","slug":"how-to-talk-about-the-societies-we-want-in-europe-new-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.eu.ripess.rio20.net\/en\/how-to-talk-about-the-societies-we-want-in-europe-new-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"How to talk about the societies we want in Europe \u2013 new guide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>We believe there\u2019s an appetite for change, and that finding new narratives is an important piece of the puzzle<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are happy to share with you a new guide to ways to talk about the sustainable, equitable, inclusive, democratic societies we want in Europe.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This guide has been put together by a collection of civil society and trade union groups committed to building better societies in Europe.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It summarises the findings of a 6\u2013month collaboration including focus groups in five countries aiming to find new hopeful narratives, and makes these core recommendations: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Create conversations.<\/li><li>Bring Europe closer to people and their communities.<\/li><li>Balance urgency with hope.<\/li><li>Lead with strong empathy and equality values.<\/li><li>Encourage participation and stress the power people have to change things but where possible emphasise the empathic motivation behind mobilisation.<\/li><li>Be cautious when talking about the need for \u2018greater participation\u2019, it can quickly lead to negative associations with democratic failures and the rise of the far right.<\/li><li>Use the imagery of construction to help talk about community, co-operation and support.<\/li><li>Beware the difficulty of reframing\u2014for example when we talk about \u2018open borders\u2019 people still hear \u2018borders\u2019.<\/li><li>Use specific, hopeful examples that signify more caring and equal European societies.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the full findings and recommendations at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foeeurope.org\/how-to-talk-about-the-societies-we-want-in-Europe\">www.foeeurope.org\/how-to-talk-about-the-societies-we-want-in-Europe<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our recommendations are intended for campaigners, communicators, activists and all those who want to create opportunities for citizens to have conversations about the kind of Europe they want to live in.
