{"id":4326,"date":"2018-10-16T11:54:56","date_gmt":"2018-10-16T10:54:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ripess.eu\/?p=4326"},"modified":"2021-03-29T16:12:46","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T15:12:46","slug":"russia-in-saint-petersburg-building-solidarities-with-local-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.eu.ripess.rio20.net\/en\/russia-in-saint-petersburg-building-solidarities-with-local-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia: in Saint Petersburg, building solidarities with local initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span>[By Laura Aufrere, member of RIPESS Europe coordination committee]<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span>D<\/span><span>uring the last RIPESS Europe <\/span><span>General <\/span><span>Assembly in Zagre<\/span><span>b,<\/span> <span>we had the chance to meet Olga Polyakova, representing TRAVA, a vibrant <\/span><span>R<\/span><span>ussian collective organ<\/span><span>i<\/span><span>sing <\/span><span>peer to peer trainings and<\/span><span> meetings<\/span><span>, <\/span><span>food collecting and cooking happening, tours in Saint Petersbourg, a responsible consumption guide, etc<\/span><span>. <\/span><span>T<\/span><span>hanks to Olga, <\/span><span>at<\/span><span> the end of September, <\/span><span>I had the chance <\/span><span>to be welcomed <\/span><span>in the warm apartment on <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2017\/feb\/20\/10-best-things-to-do-st-petersburg-russia\">Kanonersky island<\/a><\/strong><span>, <\/span><span>shared with Gleb and Olga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Considered as the 16<\/span><sup><span>th<\/span><\/sup><span> Republic of the (ex) USSR for its geographic independence, this beautiful island stands out from the rest of the city, patching together a major <\/span><span>harbor<\/span><span>, its industries and warehouses, apartment blocks, children playgrounds, and promenades. <\/span><span>This diversity in the landscape is<\/span> <span>bound together <\/span><span>in a common sound-panorama composed by<\/span><span> the wind and the harbor rumors. W<\/span><span>ith the help of many <\/span><span>of<\/span> <span>Olga\u2019s <\/span><span>friends in Saint Petersbourg, <\/span><span>including<\/span><strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/trava.education\/\">TRAVA<\/a><\/strong><span> members, <\/span><span>we spen<\/span><span>t<\/span><span> together <\/span><span>a whole week of encounter with local initiatives, <\/span><span>and <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cupforpeople.spb.ru\/en\">there are many<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/cupforpeople.spb.ru\/en\">.<\/a><\/strong><span> Olga toured me in this beautiful city, explaining the history of the bui<\/span><span>ld<\/span><span>ings and street names. <\/span><span>We passed by the <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saint-petersburg.com\/museums\/museum-non-conformist-art\/\">Pushkinskaya 10 Arts Center<\/a><\/strong><span> to pay tribute to Russia&#8217;s &#8220;biggest Beatles fan&#8221;, Kolya Vasin, who became a prominent figure of the underground scene in the 1960s. We visited a <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mapforpeople.spb.ru\/en\">charity chop<\/a><\/strong><span>, <\/span><span>and many <\/span><span>collective initiatives to discuss solidarity economy issues to be shared in future common projects. <\/span><span>W<\/span><span>e were told stories of collective adventures <\/span><span>of self-managed<\/span><span> caf\u00e9s, restaurants, <\/span><span>etc<\/span><span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I was invited to present RIPESS Europe perspective on the future of work regarding the digital transformation during the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austausch.org\/autumn-talks\/\">Fall Meeting<\/a><\/strong><span><strong>,<\/strong> organized by the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austausch.org\/en\/\">German-Russian Exchange<\/a><\/strong><span><strong>,<\/strong> on the topic \u201cHow Is European Labour Changing: organization of work, working spaces and times, new professions and adaptation of education, solidarity economy \u201c. With the other speakers Anja Abendroth (University of Bielefeld, Germany) and Margarita Kuleva, Higher School of Economics, (St. Petersburg, Russia), we had the opportunity to <\/span><span>discuss contemporary issues that are shared at a Eu<\/span><span>r<\/span><span>opean level by many independent initiatives, with our Russian peers.
