As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on the extraordinary energy and commitment of solidarity economy practitioners across the globe. This month\u2019s newsletter offers a glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of initiatives, calls to action, and transformative practices that define our movement.<\/p>\n

In recent years, as armed conflicts escalate, nationalist and authoritarian governments have become entrenched in Europe and America. Skepticism towards science and the climate crisis persists, while efforts to wage “culture wars” seek to divide society\u2014not into rulers and ruled, but into “Us” and “Them,” based on each individual’s social identity. Now, more than ever, is the time to work systematically towards a future rooted in justice, equity, and resilience.<\/p>\n

From across the Atlantic, we delve, through an interview with Kali Akuno<\/a>\u00a0from Cooperation Jackson, into the experiences and concepts of Solidarity Economy in the United States, where radical approaches continue to inspire global conversations. Their strides in cooperative practices and community-driven solutions resonate deeply with our shared goals in Europe.
\nIn alignment with these efforts, the Ny\u00e9l\u00e9ni Forum<\/a> issues a call to action for food sovereignty and agroecology. Their advocacy underscores the urgency of supporting local peasants, land workers, and community rights\u2014essential pillars for a sustainable and equitable food system.
\nOn the global level a new resolution<\/a> on the Social and Solidarity Economy was voted by the UN reiterating the importance of the Social and Solidarity Economy to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth.
\nLooking ahead, we are thrilled to announce the Global Solidarity Economy Forum 2025<\/a>, an event that invites contributions from all corners of the world. This gathering promises to amplify voices, showcase local solutions, and strengthen global networks to accelerate the systemic change we all strive for.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, our own RIPESS Europe members are fostering dialogue and action through webinars<\/a>, educational activities on local development<\/a>, exchange meetings<\/a>, political interventions<\/a> and an alternative education initiative<\/a>. These initiatives are invaluable in sharing knowledge, connecting communities, and championing solidarity economy practices.
\nWe also celebrate the creativity within our network with the presentation of the board game \u201cThe Change\u201d<\/a>, unveiled in Athens. This engaging tool not only promotes transformative economies but also educates and empowers communities to envision and enact systemic change.<\/p>\n

At its heart, solidarity economy is about connection\u2014across sectors, geographies, and generations. This newsletter captures just a fraction of the inspiring work being done by our network. As we step into the new year, let us continue to build bridges, deepen our collaborations, and ignite the transformative power of solidarity.<\/p>\n
