The importance of the Social and Solidarity Economy to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth was reiterated.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/documents.un.org\/doc\/undoc\/ltd\/n24\/357\/64\/pdf\/n2435764.pdf\">new resolution<\/a>, co-sponsored by Armenia, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, France, Mongolia, Senegal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Suriname and Spain, was drafted by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unsse.org\/news\/\">United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE)<\/a>\u00a0following the publication, a few weeks ago, of the first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/Home\/Mobile?FinalSymbol=A%2F79%2F351&amp;Language=E&amp;DeviceType=Desktop&amp;LangRequested=False\">report of the Secretary-General 2024 on the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chile, which presented this new resolution, recalled that in April 2023 the first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/Home\/Mobile?FinalSymbol=A%2FRES%2F77%2F281&amp;Language=E&amp;DeviceType=Desktop&amp;LangRequested=False\">United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the Social and Solidarity Economy A\/RES\/77\/281<\/a>\u00a0was adopted by consensus to promote it as an inclusive economic model with \u2018<em>social objectives based on solidarity and with people and the planet at the centre<\/em>\u2019. He mentioned that this resolution underlines the importance of the SSE as a \u2018<em>key driver for inclusive and sustainable development, in particular in terms of promoting\u00a0decent work, reducing inequalities and fostering social transformation<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyloaded alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdwFUXEP4m0auKEral6F_V17fTbTk0xM9WufSPveHCvhfqWAZEMnH8Xb1XdzbtrZEEbP-i39Fn4rzeuV0SEOI0dQm8QbxlafdkZWxXR2s6yMAPHR02BD1YWW1f6_6hv7-FUhURS?key=Yq0EgGB_4LRTehuP5VsZkMg-\" alt=\"Une image contenant texte, capture d\u2019\u00e9cran, logiciel Description g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e automatiquement\" width=\"522\" height=\"336\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdwFUXEP4m0auKEral6F_V17fTbTk0xM9WufSPveHCvhfqWAZEMnH8Xb1XdzbtrZEEbP-i39Fn4rzeuV0SEOI0dQm8QbxlafdkZWxXR2s6yMAPHR02BD1YWW1f6_6hv7-FUhURS?key=Yq0EgGB_4LRTehuP5VsZkMg-\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before proceeding to the vote, the representative of the European Union and its Member States, represented also by thecandidate countries Serbia, Ukraine and Georgia, agreed that \u2018the SSE <em>is a crucial vehicle to accelerate our efforts towards the full achievement of the SDGs, in favour of economic prosperity and in social and environmental harmony, leaving no one behind\u2019\u00a0<\/em>and that\u00a0<em>\u2018the SSE is also by nature based on a strong partnership model, working with the variety of stakeholders<\/em>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The President then proceeded to the vote. 175 Member States voted in favour of the resolution, with Argentina abstaining.\u00a0The resolution was therefore adopted.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina took the floor to explain its abstention, stressing the key role of capitalism and free trade in ensuring sustainable development and ending poverty and hunger.<\/p>\n<p>The Chair then gave the floor to Senegal, who recalled that \u2018<em>SSE offers an alternative framework to capitalism that\u00a0focuses on cooperation, equity and sustainability, and seeks to promote economic practices that favour social welfare over mere profit maximisation<strong>\u2019<\/strong><\/em>. The SSE resolution is at\u00a002:35:31.<\/p>\n<p>The Second Committee, 24th plenary session of the\u00a0<sup>79th\u00a0<\/sup>session of the UN General Assembly also adopted another resolution concerning the social and solidarity economy, such as the resolution on \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/Home\/Mobile?FinalSymbol=A%2FC.2%2F79%2FL.7%2FRev.1&amp;Language=E&amp;DeviceType=Desktop&amp;LangRequested=False\"><em><strong>Promoting investment for sustainable development<\/strong><\/em>\u2019<\/a>, which recognizes the need to promote \u2018sustainable and innovative financing\u2019 opportunities to \u2018unlock sustainable business models, with a particular focus on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the social and solidarity economy\u2019.
