{"id":1228,"date":"2015-06-03T10:18:04","date_gmt":"2015-06-03T09:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ripess.eu\/?p=1228"},"modified":"2021-03-23T10:36:48","modified_gmt":"2021-03-23T09:36:48","slug":"peoples-expo-response-to-the-expos-corporate-feeding-the-planet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.eu.ripess.rio20.net\/en\/peoples-expo-response-to-the-expos-corporate-feeding-the-planet\/","title":{"rendered":"PEOPLE&#8217;s EXPO: food soverignty vs EXPO&#8217;s corporate &#8220;feeding&#8221; the Planet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>international RIPESS network participates<\/strong> with twelve people from Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America and Europe<strong> to the People&#8217;s Expo in Milan<\/strong>.\u00a0 On <strong>Tuesday, June 3<sup>rd<\/sup>,<\/strong> 2015 at the <strong>Fabbrica<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>del Vapore in Milan, the<\/strong> <strong>People\u2019s Expo<\/strong> is taking place, an international forum of civil society and peasant\u2019s movements. This forum will last until the <strong>5<sup>th<\/sup> of June<\/strong> and will bring together over <strong>150 delegates from all over the world<\/strong>. The main purpose is to assert the <strong>voices of peoples<\/strong>, in order to propose and illustrate<strong> strategies and solutions<\/strong> put in place to cope with the global problems of access to food and natural resources, <strong>with food soverignty as the main political goal.<\/strong> The <strong>governments and transnational corporations are grabbing the spotlight<\/strong> at the official Expo and we must make the voices of peoples be heard through this important space, for a totally different way to &#8220;feed the planet&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The event is organized by the <strong>People\u2019s Expo Committee<\/strong>, a group gathering <strong>50 NGOs and associations of the Italian civil society <\/strong>together with<strong> international networks and peasant\u2019s movements <\/strong>who operate on a daily basis in various areas such as: cooperation for development, environmental justice, human rights, organic production, critical consumption.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis year, while the United Nations are setting the new Sustainable Development Goals and a new Global Agreement on Climate Change<\/em> \u2013 explains <strong>Giosu\u00e9 De Salvo, the Committee<\/strong> <strong>spokesman-<\/strong> <em>People\u2019s Expo wants to seize the opportunity of the theme set by Expo 2015 to have the political agenda focus on the respect for human rights and the limits of the planet. The forum will give voice, above all to representatives of small-scale and family farming, excluded from the official Expo despite the fact they produce 70% of food consumed globally and are nowadays the main investors in agriculture.\u201d<\/em> As a matter of fact, it is at the People\u2019s Expo that some of the world\u2019s most important peasants\u2019 movements will participate, including: <strong>La Via Campesina, <\/strong>the <strong>International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty, the Terra Madre network of food communities<\/strong>, the <strong>Global Call Global Call to Action Against Poverty <\/strong>and the<strong> Climate Action Network.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An intense three-day program, with schedules from <strong>9 am to 18 pm, <\/strong>will include plenary lectures, a speakers\u2019 corner where anyone will be able to share their own testimony and working spaces reserved for delegates.
